I only just learned of Carrie's death almost 11 months after her passing. A longtime resident of the Harrison Neighborhood, Carrie Juntunen passed away from cancer. I was fortunate to become friends with Carrie about 20 years ago through the Environment Committee of the Harrison Neighborhood Association.
Carrie (full name Carolyn Marie Juntunen) born June 21, 1949, was 68 years old at her passing on May 10, 2017. She lived in her home at 1703 2nd Ave. N. in Harrison for many years. I am not sure exactly how many years she lived here - at least 20 years, maybe 30 or more. She was a likeable and friendly soul.
As mentioned by Mary Schaffer, Carrie volunteered of her free time often in a number of community oriented activities. Mary mentioned election judge, HNA Environment Committee, and MPRB.
In 2012 Carrie was on the Citizen Advisory Committee with the master plan for renovation of the Wirth Lake Beach area, and in 2013 on the CAC for the renovation of the Theodore Wirth Picnic Pavilion. In 2012 the City of Minneapolis was considering splitting the Harrison Neighborhood between two precincts: Carrie submitted comments to the City expressing a desire to keep the Harrison Neighborhood all in one precinct. In 2007 Minneapolis Public Schools was considering closing W Harry Davis Academy: Carrie submitted comments to MPS Board of Education stating reasons to keep the school active in the school district.
The above photos I took at a couple Harrison Neighborhood Association Environment Committee events around 2004 to 2007. One is a native planting event and the other a Buckthorn removal event in Bassett's Creek Park. These were the best of only a few pictures I have of her. It would be great if anyone could send me more photos of Carrie. -- -- -- -- Dave
